StudyLens privacy policy
Last updated: 24 September 2026
The short version
Your study library is private. When you ask StudyLens to make cards, the photos you select are uploaded to our Firebase service and processed by Google’s Gemini AI through Vertex AI. We save your cards and study progress so you can come back to them. We do not sell your personal information or use it for advertising tracking. You can turn reminders off and delete your account.
Avoid uploading names, faces, addresses, sensitive information or someone else’s personal details. Only upload work you have permission to use. If you are under 18, involve a parent or guardian when creating an account or buying a subscription. Ask us if anything here is unclear.
Who is responsible?
StudyLens is provided by Digitalhope Ltd, a company registered in the United Kingdom. Contact support@digitalhopeltd.com for privacy questions or requests.
Information we use
- Account details: your user ID, chosen name and email address, including details you choose to share through Sign in with Apple. Firebase Authentication manages sign-in credentials.
- Study material: selected photographs, extracted text, source excerpts, generated and edited cards, subject and exam-board preferences, decks and diary entries.
- Study progress: answers, test results, recall ratings, practice dates and learning preferences used to show progress and suggest revision.
- Purchases: subscription status, product and transaction identifiers and an account association used to verify Apple purchases. We do not receive your full payment-card details.
- Devices and notifications: installation identifiers, notification delivery tokens and basic device/app information. Apple App Attest and DeviceCheck help protect the service and check whether a device has already received its free-card allowance.
- Service and support records: technical request information, such as IP addresses, function calls and operational diagnostics, and information you send when requesting support.
StudyLens does not request your contacts, precise location or advertising identifier. There is no public profile, public library or student-to-student messaging service.
Why we use it
We use this information to sign you in, generate and check cards, save and restore your library, show your own progress, suggest study sessions, verify subscriptions, deliver enabled reminders and protect the service against misuse. Your quiz results are revision feedback, not decisions about school admission, grades or access to education.
For UK data-protection purposes, our grounds are providing the service you request, our legitimate interests in security, preventing misuse and maintaining a reliable service, and legal obligations where applicable. Optional device permissions and notifications are under your control. We do not use your study results to target advertising.
AI and service providers
Google Firebase and Google Cloud Vertex AI provide authentication, storage, databases, server functions, notification delivery and AI processing. Selected photos and relevant study context are sent to Gemini to create cards and run a separate review. An AI review can still miss mistakes; check important information with your teacher or textbook.
Google states that it does not use Vertex AI customer data to train or fine-tune models without the customer’s permission. Provider processing may include limited retention for abuse monitoring or caching under its service terms; we do not promise zero retention by every provider. See Google’s Vertex AI data governance information.
Apple handles Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, push notification delivery and device integrity/eligibility checks. Apple processes information under its own privacy policy. We may also disclose information when legally required or necessary to protect users and the service.
Where information is processed
StudyLens uses Firebase database, storage and function resources configured in London. AI uses a global Vertex AI endpoint, and Apple, Google and their service providers may process information outside the UK. London storage therefore does not mean all processing stays in the UK. International transfers are subject to applicable provider data-processing terms and transfer safeguards.
How long information stays
We delete uploaded source photos from our app storage when processing completes or fails, with additional cleanup for abandoned jobs. Cleanup may take time or need a retry. Extracted text, source excerpts, generated cards and study history remain part of your library until removed or your account is deleted.
Account deletion removes the Firebase account and its study library and uploaded files. Limited purchase ownership/verification records and security or operational logs may be retained where needed to prevent misuse, resolve transactions or meet legal obligations. Apple’s device eligibility flag can remain after account deletion or app reinstallation, so deleting an account does not grant another free allowance. Apple’s purchase records are controlled by Apple.
Saved study data also exists on your device. Removing the app removes its local app storage but does not itself delete the cloud account or cancel a subscription. Provider backups and logs may expire on their own retention schedules rather than immediately.
Your choices and rights
- Edit your cards and diary entries in the app.
- Change notification preferences in StudyLens and iOS Settings. You can withdraw camera access in iOS Settings and choose which photos to import.
- Export your library or delete your account in My space. A recent sign-in may be required for deletion.
- Manage or cancel a subscription separately in Apple’s subscription settings.
- Contact support to request access, correction, deletion or a copy of personal information, or to object to or restrict processing where applicable. We may need to verify ownership before acting.
You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office if you are unhappy with how your personal information is handled. Please contact us if you would like help first.
Changes
We update this page when the app or its processing changes. The date above shows the latest revision. Material changes will be explained through an appropriate app or service notice.
